Portion Control Tips on the HCG Diet

Proper portion control is essential on the HCG diet as it manages the total amount of food you eat per day. Eating the right food portions is as important as having clean meals on the VLCD. It is also helpful in controlling the calories you eat to start the mechanism of the HCG.

Know the Recommended Food Serving on the HCG Diet

The allowable amount of foods you can eat on the second phase of the HCG diet is 500 calories per day. You need to get the proper portion of foods from each allowable food group. Look in the nutritional labels of every product to manage your serving sizes. Take note that carbs, sugar, and fats are not permissible.

Estimate your Servings Sizes during the VLCD

If you eat outside, focus on managing the amount of serving you get on your meal. Avoid picking portions on fried foods or those that contain various ingredients. Assess your food intake to help you stay on the diet track.

Here is a guide in getting the right portion of foods on the HCG Diet:

  • You have to eat 200 grams of lean meat per day. Ensure that you remove the fats and weigh them before cooking.
  • Eat two servings of vegetables per day as part of the allocation. You can eat different types of vegetables in each meal but avoid mixing them in one serving.
  • Avoid pasta, bread, donuts, and bagels as they have loads of calories that can cause weight gain.
  • Instead of bread, grab a piece of Melba toast or Grissini. These are the permissible carb options for the HCG diet.
  • To reduce your portion sizes, avoid fried foods as they trigger your appetite to dig more.
  • Cottage cheese is permissible as occasional options when lean meats are not available. Get at least 100 grams of cottage cheese but avoid doing it every day.
  • Eat two servings of HCG diet-approved fruits that are about the size of a tennis ball. Avoid dried fruit since they have added sugar.
  • Measure your foods using food scales, measuring cups, and spoon in your kitchen.
  • Use smaller dishes to trick your brain into thinking that you are eating enough foods.

Stop Eating When you Feel the Satiety

Stop eating once your hunger subsides or your finish your portion. Avoid digging in for another round to prevent stomach discomfort. Stop when you no longer feel hungry or just before you feel the satiety to avoid overeating.

What to do when Hunger Occurs in Between Meals?

Listen to the signal of your body and determine if it is physical or a product of emotion. Hunger occurs when your body needs nutrients to continue functioning. Emotional starvation, on the other hand, is a product of stress and food temptations. For physical hunger, eat some fruits and drink lots of water. Take note that you will not starve if you eat the proper food portions.
